Equestrian Australia is delighted to offer its Sporting Schools program to children across Australia’s school yards. We are pleased to partner with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) to deliver this $160 million Australian Government initiative to get more children playing more sport.

As a joint project, Equestrian Australia and the Pony Club of Australia are proud to present the junior participation program, Ready Set Trot which is an introductory equestrian program for children who love horses but may not have access to a horse of their own.

As the national sporting organisation (NSO) for equestrian, we offer schools and coaches quality programs that encourage children to participate in this great sport.

Ready Set Trot

Ready Set Trot – Playground Skills is a free, sport based program that enables children to use their imagination to learn basic horse knowledge and welfare through fun, physically active and traditional schoolyard group games. A horse is not required for this equestrian focused program and all lessons can be delivered on school grounds using a combination of basic sports equipment.

Ride a Horse is an interactive program for secondary school students that will encourage students to be more active and engaged in sport while learning fundamentals skills associated with Equestrian. This program also has the capacity to be helpful in addressing Leadership, Team Work, Communication, Self Esteem, Behavioural issues or many other skills through interaction and working with the Horse.

Teachers and coaches are our assets

Equestrian Australia values the role of teachers not just in the classroom but in the school yard as well. Their enthusiasm for improving children’s lives is often understated. Society places its trust and confidence in teachers who as educators, have one of the most important roles for our children, outside of parents and carers.

Coaches are also a wonderful influence on children throughout their formative years. Coaches are the people who deliver the skills with fun and enjoyment.

The information below is a guide to how schools, coaches and sporting organisations can deliver the Ready Set Trot program within Sporting Schools.
