Cricket Australia is thrilled to offer its Sporting Schools program to children across Australia’s school yards. The Sporting Schools initiative is extremely exciting for all involved and we are keen to grow our game and maintain our position as one of Australia’s favourite sports.
Cricket Australia is pleased to partner with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) to deliver this $200 million Australian Government initiative to get more children playing more sport.
As the national sporting organisation (NSO) for cricket, we offer schools and coaches quality programs that encourage children to participate in this great sport.
“I think it’s an outstanding initiative with what they are doing here with the school sporting program. It’s amazing to see kids out there playing and being so active and you can see all these kids having a good time behind us. They’re really enjoying themselves and I think it’s great for them to stay active as well”. Steve Smith, Australian cricket captain.
The Cricket Australia Products
Cricket Australia is offering four programs as part of the Sporting Schools initiative. These programs have been specifically designed for Sporting Schools with the aim of increasing participant’s confidence and competence. They are made up of practical cricket activities that focus on fun, fitness and friendships.
The junior program (lower to middle primary) and the senior program (middle to upper primary) are the two programs available for primary school students. The programs are based around the national MILO in2CRICKET program and offer curriculum aligned resources for teachers to support the program.
Cricket Skills and Games is an exciting new curriculum aligned program for secondary school students in Year 7 and 8. The program uses cricket and modified games and as the vehicle for promoting movement and physical activity.
Female Cricket Health & PE is a new program for secondary school girls in Year 7 and 8 that promotes a positive and safe environment to learn through movement. The curriculum aligned program is designed with a holistic view of physical activity which contributes to social, physical and community well-being.
Teachers and coaches are our assets
Cricket Australia values the role of teachers not just in the classroom but in the school yard as well. Their enthusiasm for improving children’s lives is often understated. Society places its trust and confidence in teachers who as educators, have one of the most important roles for our children, outside of parents and carers.
Coaches are also a wonderful influence on children throughout their formative years. Coaches are the people who deliver the skills with fun and enjoyment.
