Australian Sailing is thrilled to offer its Sporting Schools program to children across Australia.
Sailing is part of our national sporting and cultural heritage. The sport contributes to the social cohesiveness of our community and provides a safe and healthy sport and social environment for Australians of all ages and abilities.
Australian Sailing is pleased to partner with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) to deliver this $200 million Australian Government initiative to get more children playing more sport.
As the national sporting organisation (NSO) for sailing, we offer schools and coaches quality programs that encourage children to participate in this great sport.
“We want there to be a really strong culture of healthy body and mind and being involved in structured physical and leisure activity — we see Sporting Schools as being a big part of that.” Somerset Primary School Principal, Mat Grining.
The Australian Sailing Product
The sailing product on offer through Sporting Schools is Tackers. Tackers is a learn to sail program that caters for children aged seven to 12 and is delivered at recognised Tackers centres. Kids don’t need to have any prior sailing experience as all equipment, including the boats, is provided.
Kids play loads of games and go on adventures together to learn how to sail. There isn’t a court, a pitch or an oval like other sports, instead you have a beach, river or lake to explore.
TEACHERS AND COACHES ARE OUR ASSETS
Australian Sailing values the role of teachers not just in the classroom but in the school yard as well. Their enthusiasm for improving children’s lives is often understated. Society places its trust and confidence in teachers who as educators, have one of the most important roles for our children, outside of parents and carers.
Coaches are also a wonderful influence on children throughout their formative years. Coaches are the people who deliver the skills with fun and enjoyment.
