Riggers initiative changing lives

As part of the Australian Sports Commission’s Youth Participation Project (YPP), Rowing Australia has been running pilot programs across the country in order to develop their approach for secondary schools. Springwood State High School in Queensland is one of the schools involved and they say the students are now almost reading to compete in a regatta.

Rugby helping students kick goals for life

Over 150 students between Year 3-6 at Young Public School were given the opportunity to participate in the Rugby Union sessions, with the majority having never played any form of rugby before.

Timbumburi girls jump into the basketball community

Andrew McDonald, from Timbumburi Public School in NSW, was delighted with his Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops basketball program delivered through Sporting Schools. Tamworth Basketball Association have also reported that the program has generated new teams for the local competition.

Sandy Beach Public School gets off the sand and into the surf

Sandy Beach Public School is a regional, coastal school that sits approximately 2km from the coast. Naturally, when the opportunity to team up with Solitary Islands Surf School to deliver a program through Sporting Schools presented itself, the school jumped on their surfboards. 

NSW Schools Map a path to sporting success

Regional schools from NSW were provided a wonderful setting for 30 Kindergarten to Year 6 students to be introduced to orienteering through the Sporting Schools Program. Instructors from Orienteering ACT joined with the students for a day to provide foundational skills of the sport.  

Hot Shots Tennis program developing regional talent

Thanks to the ANZ Hot Shots Tennis program, Jugiong Public School students made it all the way through to the State finals in Sydney following a successful outing in the Hot Shots tennis tournament in Yass.
